671 Improving the Basic Biochemical Evaluation of Acute Renal Colic – A Two Cycle Audit

Abstract Introduction Latest guidelines by the European Association of Urology and BAUS recommend all patients presenting with acute renal colic have basic biochemical evaluation including blood calcium, urate, white cell count, CRP, sodium, potassium, creatinine. Patients hypercalcaemia or hyperuricaemia are particularly at risk developing further stones, however compliance AE urology departments can vary. Method Retrospective audit CT urinary tract (non-contrast) scans between February-April 2020 a confirmed ureteric stone. previously investigated re-presenting were excluded. Results shared education on undertaken for junior clinical staff in followed re-audit May-July 2020. The first cycle identified 51 colic. Overall, 47% had required tests performed. Urate was tested 54.9% calcium 58.8%. Re-audit after intervention 50 patients. Overall increased to 62% patients, urate 66% 76%. Conclusions Compliance key screening generally poor district general hospital setting. A causative factor lack awareness clinicians. Education demonstrated modest improvement within short time scale.
